Buying

Our aim is to make buying with us a straightforward process and an enjoyable experience. We are sure that once you have made your first auction purchase, you’ll soon be back for more!

Our golden rule is if in doubt, ask. We are always more than happy to talk you through how our auctions work and there’s definitely no such thing as a daft question!

Viewing items for sale

We will hold at least one viewing day prior to the auction, when you can come in and have a good look at the items we have for sale. We strongly recommend this as it is your way of checking out the condition of items. We will produce a catalogue with a brief description of each Lot we are selling. This will be available in print at our saleroom and online. The print version may not have photographs of each Lot, but the online catalogue always will.

Buying

If there’s something you are interested in, we offer several methods of bidding/buying at our auctions:

Attend our Saleroom

Come and experience the excitement and atmosphere of bidding “in the room”. This is the traditional method of buying at auction. All you need to do is pop in and register at our reception (identification is required). You will then be allocated your own bidding number and can then bid as you wish.

Online

Bid from the comfort of your own home, or anywhere you have an internet connection! This is rapidly becoming the most popular/convenient method of buying at auction. Our catalogue will be available on our website a few days prior to auction day.

To start bidding online you will need to create an account and register for the auction you want to bid at, all upcoming auctions can be found here. You can then watch/listen to the live auction and bid as you wish. You can even leave your maximum bid for any Lot(s) as an Auto Bid beforehand if you are otherwise engaged.

An Autobid allows our system to bid on your behalf up to the maximum bid you have left. Autobids are confidential so the auctioneer will not know how much you have left.

You can also leave a +1 with your Autobid. This allows our system to bid one more increment if you are outbid on your maximum amount.

Autobids can be left at any time up until the lot is offered by the auctioneer and you can even bid live having left Autobids as our system will not let you bid against yourself.

Telephone

We can facilitate your bid by telephone. This is usually popular when you cannot attend in person and do not have internet access. We do ask that any request to bid by telephone is made prior to auction day and you will need to register as if you were bidding “in the room”.

On Commission

Bids may be left with us for our Auctioneer to place on your behalf. This is usually the chosen method if you are unable to bid in any other way. You will need to register as if you were bidding “in the room”.

Payment

Congratulations, your bid was successful and all that’s left is to pay for your item(s) and they’re all yours! We do ask for payment within 48 hours of the end of the auction please. Our preferred method of payment is by bank transfer, although we will happily accept payment by cash or debit/credit card (subject to limits). We no longer accept cheque payments. If you are outside of the UK, please contact us before making payment.

Collection/Delivery

We ask that you collect or arrange delivery of your items within seven days of the auction ending.

For smaller items we can arrange to pack and send. Contact us for a quote. Please be aware of the chosen carrier’s limitations regarding any risk of loss/damage in transit.

For larger items we may be able to deliver locally (within 30 miles) or recommend a reputable courier.

You may nominate a third-party to collect on your behalf. All we ask is that you provide in writing your authority for this and advise your nominated person that we will require their identification before releasing your goods.

In short, that’s it! Our full terms and conditions are available on our website, or at our saleroom and don’t forget – any questions, just ask…………
